Mission Statement

The First Responder Institute is dedicated to enhancing First Responder job-readiness, performance, survivability, health and wellness by delivering education, training and financial assistance to First Responders across the nation.


In support of its public safety missions, FRI researches the human performance requirements and characteristics of First Responder job tasks. Based on these analyses, FRI designs training programs and competitive events that improve First Responder capabilities, performance, health, wellness and physical fitness.

The hallmark of FRI’s programs is a steadfast commitment to establishing awards-based programs that reward excellence and stimulate improved and repeated performance of First Responder essential skills.

Examples of FRI’S best known programs include: Firefighter Combat Challenge, World SWAT Challenge, LEOPARD Challenge, and GSK/TUMS Grant in Aid Program


General Objectives

  • Provide programs of instruction and education to improve health and fitness
  • Create public safety educational programs
  • Coordinate with local fire and police department’s relief and grants-in-aid programs
  • Conduct seminars for local civic associations
  • Work with local, state and federal officials to promote and support FRI programs
  • Organize safety fairs and other traveling education campaigns
  • Secure funding assistance for emergency service provider’s needs
  • Produce public service announcements and campaigns to support the efforts of firstresponders.
